I have many memories of stange/weird moments at various shows, here are a few of my favorites.

5-21-82, Greek Theater. As Bird Song kicked off, someone from backstage released a whole flock (about 20 or so) of white doves that circled above the Greek Theater for the entire song before being called back down at the end of it.

7-29-82, Red Rocks. It rained for 3 days straight during this run and they had been selling these orange ponchos for all three shows. The third day it poured all day and Red Rocks was engulfed in a cloud. I was about halfway up the arena and could barely see the stage. It was very eerie. Looking around, it was impossible to recognize anyone, all you could see was 10,000 orange blobs bopping in the mist.

8-30-85, Southern Star Arena. This show was at an arena that was part of the Astro-World/Six Flags park. The arena was set up so that the stage had the amusement park behind it (unlike Compton Terrace which sloped down from the park). It was a full moon might and the moon was rising stage right as Jack Straw was starting. The really cool part was that the stage was right in front of one of the roller coasters, and you could see all the carnival lights behind the band. Between songs, during tuning, you could hear the carnival music and hear the screams as the roller coaster sped by. it was very appropriate for a Dead show.
